Clarence Thomas Recalls Being Called Scary by Samuel Alito
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recently shared a humorous story about his time at Yale Law School with Sen. Ted Cruz during a rare interview. The pair appeared together on an episode of the Verdict with Ted Cruz podcast that aired Wednesday. They discussed race, politics, and many other topics while sitting down to talk. When asked why Alito and Thomas were never friends back at the Ivy League institution, Alito told Thomas he was scary.

Thomas explained his reason for being perceived as scary by detailing his appearance during those years. He wore bib overalls paired with combat boots throughout law school. I am so glad they did not have phones back then where you could take a lot of pictures, he added to the conversation. Cruz pointed out that Alito attended Yale just one year behind Thomas but noted they did not know each other at first.

You were scary, Thomas said Alito told him regarding their shared time at the university. The justice recalled asking Sam how come we were there two years together yet never became friends. He described Alito as a funny guy who was brilliant and always nerdy. Cruz asked if he was like a Princeton guy since both attended prestigious schools.

Thomas noted that Alito arrived a year behind him when discussing their college days. During the interview, Cruz brought up Thomas past life as a left-wing radical before embracing conservatism later on. He journeyed to become an extraordinary thinker according to Cruz remarks made Wednesday. No other justice has overcome so much adversity to reach the very pinnacle of American law.
