Civilian Suspect Assaults Guards at Florida Air Force Base

Sep 27, 2026 •Crime

A civilian suspect was taken into custody outside MacDill Air Force Base in Florida on Saturday following an incident where the individual "violently engaged" security personnel, reports from the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office confirmed. The intruder forced his way past the perimeter of the Tampa installation around 1 p.m. and sparked a violent confrontation with guards that left one officer and the civilian suffering non-life-threatening injuries, as FOX 13 and WTSP-TV detailed.

"The Dale Mabry Gate is currently closed to inbound and outbound traffic until further notice," the base announced on its Facebook page at roughly 2:30 p.m., adding a plea for travelers to plan around the situation and steer clear of that specific gate area. Police from the Tampa Police Department were seen blocking South Dale Mabry Highway near the main entrance while an investigation continued into the breach. The facility did not reveal exactly what triggered the assault, though it noted U.S. Central Command headquarters sit at the site.

Fox News Digital contacted the 6th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs Office for comment. Brie Stimson, a Los Angeles-based entertainment and breaking news writer for Fox News Digital, covered the story.
