Civil Rights Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon Resigns After GOP Midterm Losses
Harmeet Dhillon stepped down Thursday from her post as assistant attorney general for civil rights. Sources told Fox News that she is exiting the Department of Justice. She had taken the helm in April 2025, overseeing the Civil Rights Division. Her departure follows a brutal week for the GOP. President Donald Trump’s party lost control of both the House and Senate in this week’s midterms.

The timing feels pointed. In the runup to those elections, Dhillon had staked out a firm defense of the administration’s probe into noncitizen voting. Lesley Stahl, host of CBS’ "60 Minutes," challenged her on air. Stahl asked if the real goal was to sow distrust in the entire election system. She noted that very few noncitizens actually end up casting ballots. "And so, therefore, what's the purpose?" Stahl pressed.

Dhillon pushed back hard. She argued the probe did the exact opposite of sowing doubt. "The distrust is there," she said. According to her, these crimes are finally being prosecuted in volume for the first time really. She pointed to the Biden era as proof. "And look, even the Biden administration prosecuted 13 people for noncitizen voting," Dhillon stated.

Now that the political winds have shifted, her tenure ends. Fox News Digital’s Lindsay Kornick and Hanna Panreck contributed to this report. This story is developing. Check back for updates.
