California Teacher Faces Investigation After Controversial Video Shows Him Urinating in Classroom
A California middle school teacher is at the center of a controversy after a video surfaced showing him urinating into a cup inside his classroom just moments before students arrived. The incident, captured by a student and shared with families, has led to an investigation at Granite Oaks Middle School in Rocklin, where officials called the behavior 'inconsistent with our professional standards.' The teacher, identified by students as Dan Champ, has over 25 years of experience teaching eighth-grade history and serving as an Associated Student Body adviser.
The video obtained by The Sacramento Bee appears to show Champ unbuttoning his pants and urinating into a container out of the camera's view. As he adjusts his clothing, he can be heard saying, 'Gosh, that's good - gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh.' Later, while carrying the container, he says, 'love it, love it.' A pouring sound follows, and about a minute later, the school bell rings, signaling the start of class. Whispering and giggling can be heard before the video ends.

The incident first came to light on February 25 after a parent and a staff member alerted school administrators. A message sent to families that same day confirmed the teacher had been placed on leave while the district investigates. 'While the unverified video does not involve any students or other staff, the employee has been placed on leave,' the email read. 'This matter is being taken seriously and will be addressed in accordance with applicable policies.'

A former student of Champ's told The Bee she had heard rumors earlier in the year that he would urinate into a container between classes. She said she received the video via Snapchat and described feeling 'disgusted' knowing she once sat near where the incident occurred. Her mother requested anonymity due to privacy concerns. The video has also been posted online, sparking debate among parents in the Rocklin Unified School District community.
Some parents questioned whether teachers are given enough time for restroom breaks, while others rejected that explanation. 'I saw the video. It was really weird, and there was enough time for him to go to the restroom,' one parent wrote. 'My daughter's friend who is a junior remembers being in his class and it always smelling weird.' Another parent said, 'I don't think it's a restroom break situation.'

The legality of the video also came under scrutiny. One commenter wrote, 'So this makes filming him secretly ok?' Another added, 'Although this is highly concerning, why are students secretly filming a teacher alone in their classroom? That to me is also disturbing.'

Champ and his wife, Myla, run an educational travel program called Champ Tours, which offers trips to East Coast historic sites and New York City. The program has upcoming trips scheduled for this spring and summer. Despite his extensive teaching career, the incident has left many questioning how such behavior could occur in a school setting.
School officials have not yet announced disciplinary action, stating the investigation is ongoing. The Daily Mail reached out to Champ and the school for comment, but no response has been provided. For now, the video continues to circulate, and the community waits for answers.
