California Post Endorses Steve Hilton for Governor Amid Radical Policy Proposals

Oct 30, 2026 •Politics

The California Post is casting its vote for Steve Hilton in the race for governor. Why? Because Hilton has waged a bold, impressive campaign that cuts through the usual political noise. This Republican has floated ideas so radical that even some Democrats are nodding along. Take his proposal to let Californians pay zero taxes on income up to $150,000. That is a massive shift.

He is also pushing hard to slash fuel prices. How? By ditching high gas taxes and ripping out the costly "green energy" policies that bloat household budgets without actually saving the planet. On housing, Hilton wants California to build out, not up. He is championing single-family homes, the kind people actually want, instead of those ugly high-rises.

And Hilton has refused to back down on the transgender issue. He is defending girls' rights in sports and insisting parents have the right to know what is happening with their children. Despite the long odds, this man has worked tirelessly across the state. He even walked into Skid Row and "fentanyl alley," forcing people to look at the raw consequences of decades of bad policy coming out of Sacramento.

His opponent, Democrat Xavier Becerra, was nobody’s first choice during the primary. Even former Obama administration staffers were appalled that he might survive to reach the general election. Susan Rice, a close Obama advisor, once called Becerra an idiot. She did not deny that remark, even while backing her party’s nominee.

Becerra is simply an empty suit. He has failed upwards his entire political career. He was a do-nothing congressman in Washington. Then he became California’s attorney general when Kamala Harris left, despite his dormant law license. He was invisible as Joe Biden’s HHS secretary. Decades of politics, zero real achievements to speak of.

The stakes here could not be higher. The California dream is falling apart. Yes, we still hold the fourth-biggest economy in the world. But we also lead the nation in poverty and homelessness. Businesses that started here are packing up and leaving, taking jobs with them. Hollywood is losing tens of thousands of jobs. It is a mass exodus.

For 16 years, Democrats have done whatever they wanted in California. The results are a disaster. We have watched the California dream get trampled by the politics of extremism, envy, and division. Our big cities have been trashed by rioters. Now socialists want to take over.

While our politicians lecture us about climate change, they allow hundreds of thousands of acres to burn in wildfires every year. Those fires erase all the gains in emissions. They cause untold misery to tens of thousands of homeowners. Fraud is rampant throughout our government programs, even as spending runs out of control.

Our infrastructure is crumbling. Our schools are failing. Nobody in Sacramento seems to want to do anything about it. We are seeing the results of nearly two decades of one-party misrule. And the Democrats have given us a candidate who promises to change nothing.

As Becerra said during the recent debate, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result. This year, California voters have a real choice.
