Burglars Steal £12,000 in Rare Pokémon Cards from Dorset Home

Oct 29, 2026 •Crime

Twelve rare Pokémon cards vanished from a safe in West Moors, Dorset, leaving owner Nathan Dallimore out of pocket by £12,000. The theft occurred while the 34-year-old mortgage advisor was away on a 10-day family holiday. Burglars forced their way in through a bathroom window and stripped the bedroom cupboard of its contents. They grabbed the entire safe containing the cards, along with some cash. Nothing else was taken. This precision suggests a targeted raid rather than a random smash-and-grab.

Dallimore bought the cards for just £50 about nine or ten years ago. He and his twin brother snapped them up in a pack of 150, mostly commemorating Pokémon’s 20th anniversary. At the time, they were modest pocket change. Then came the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). In November, Dallimore sent the cards for grading. By May or June, they returned with a perfect score of 10. That is the highest possible rating for items in pristine condition. The value skyrocketed to roughly £12,000. He kept them locked away in a safe from that point forward.

"I can’t think of anyone who would have known they were there," Dallimore admitted. He conceded the thieves might have just gotten very lucky. But he suspects otherwise. He points to a string of similar thefts from stores in Bournemouth. "It’s getting more rife for sure," he said. The timing is suspicious. The value of rare Pokémon cards is rising sharply. Last week, a retired decorator in Woking sold a collection that had sat in an attic for over a decade for £1.56 million. The market is hot, and criminals know it.

Because the cards are professionally graded, each one carries a unique certification number. Dallimore is confident this tracks them. "Whoever has them is probably going to hold on to them for a while before they try selling them," he noted. He has released photographs of the cards, hoping someone recognizes them if the thieves attempt to pawn them off. It’s a long shot, but a necessary one.

Dorset Police visited the home on October 11 after the incident. A spokesperson confirmed the report came in at 1:38 am that day. Officers noted entry was gained while occupants had been away since September 30. The stolen items included cash and high-value Pokémon cards. Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have been made. For now, the cards remain missing, and the safe is empty.
