Bills vs Lions Start NFL Week 2 With Fall Air

Sep 17, 2026 •Sports

Nightcaps delivers the biggest sports, news and culture updates for those pretending to work at their desk from Monday through Friday on OutKick.com. The first real Thursday Night Football game of the year arrived as a true blessing with Al and Kirk on the call while we might spot that goofy dog later. Bills, Lions, Gibbs, Allen, Lordy. What a WAY to start Week 2 of the NFL season! I walked outside this morning and felt it for the first time. That slight breeze hit me hard. The fact that I did not break a sweat on the way down the driveway to grab trash cans proves something changed. The grass was not completely soaked from morning dew because humidity sat right at 150%. Fall feels real now. If you live in Florida long enough, you develop a sixth sense for these shifts. We know instantly between ninety and eighty-five degrees. When mornings hit seventy-six instead of eighty-six, we feel the drop immediately. BET365 offers a bonus code where you bet ten dollars to get three hundred sixty-five whether you win or lose on Thursday Night Football featuring the Bills versus Lions. This morning was one of those rare ones. I cannot wait to see what tonight holds for everyone. Let us roll forward with confidence. Welcome to Thursday Nightcaps where Paige Spiranac says goodbye to summer and defends Sydney Sweeney as wokes continue to melt down over her sports gambling ad. We all knew Paige would side with Sydney, right? That seems like a natural fit indeed. CRAIG CARTON calls crazy people who hate Sydney Sweeney while supporting Lindsay Clancy on his show. Landry Kiffin is clapping back at those disgusting Ole Miss banners now. This SEC on CBS flashback made me feel things deeply yesterday. You guys had some responses to my inquiry about the 1990 Gainesville Murders from last week. The response was so big I think I will turn it into a column later this week. I will give you a taste today though. Grab a cheeseburger for an early start on tomorrow's National Cheeseburger Day and settle in for Thursday Cap! Sydney Sweeney has an ally in Paige Spiranac right now. We have some new readers since we last celebrated the great American cheeseburger so here is a quick housekeeping item. For those who do not know, the cheeseburger from Buffalo Wild Wings stands as without doubt the best burger in America. I have stood on this hill for years and feel as strong today as I ever have. I will die on this fact one day. It is not one you would immediately think of when discussing burgers but trust me it is worth trying once. Readers reached out over years thanking me for speaking truth about food choices. That burger has never let me down in any situation. I took that picture at my fantasy football draft last year unfortunately. We went to Applebee's this year for the draft and their burger did not come close while good. I also started zero-one last week which cannot be a coincidence by chance. We will see how this week goes before long. OK enough food talk lets get this class going with Paige Spiranac saying goodbye to summer via bikini-clad Instagram post then defending Sydney Sweeney in comments. Naturally she took that stand again. God forbid a woman loves her nice cans according to some voices out there. Put it on a hat Paige since she started all of this influence work. Influencers nowadays are everywhere and cost only a dime these days. When Paige Spiranac first started out she was the best one available then. So when Paige chimes in on something we listen carefully to her words today. She stated the obvious about this whole Sydney Sweeney drama right now. THE CRAIG CARTON SHOW remains unfiltered, unapologetic and unmissable for all listeners seeking truth daily. It is complete nonsense from those critics claiming otherwise honestly. I would wager a guess that Novig has seen a one hundred percent increase in sign-ups since Sydney launched her new campaign recently. That represents a clear win for the brand involved. Oh no she lost two hundred thousand of her Instagram followers some say falsely. Give me a break on such claims today please. Have any of them hit a seven-player prop parlay that pays thirteen hundred dollars? Don't think so based on my records and experience with these bets.

Landry Kiffin has returned to the spotlight this week, not because of a touchdown or a interception, but due to some nasty signage hanging from homes along Oxford Street ahead of her father's big return game. The atmosphere in Mississippi feels electric and tense. Many fans are furious with CBS for bringing all of this drama front and center on Sunday.

"I understand emotions are high this week, and people are upset, but I'm my own person," Landry stated clearly regarding the backlash. She added that she has become the punchline to a sexual joke. Her words were sharp as she questioned how anyone could feel good about themselves while putting such vulgar things on a giant banner hanging from their house.

Landry explained that students are saying really inappropriate things about her using somebody she genuinely has never met in her life, which makes it even more frustrating. She hopes people realize there is an actual person behind the jokes others make. All of this stems from a rumor circulating through Oxford, a long-running rumor I might add, that Landry Kiffin and a former player had sexual relations during Lane Kiffin's tenure at Ole Miss. Fans believe that is the reason this former player was essentially benched last season.

I don't feel like getting a call from Legal today, so I won't go into further detail. Feel free to Google it on your own time. It ain't hard to find. Anyway, Landry is still a student at Ole Miss, which really makes this feel like some serious friendly fire to me. Tensions are HIGH in Oxford right now.

I can't wait for Saturday night because it is the Game of the Year by a mile. We will be watching Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit call the action on CBS. Speaking of that Ole Miss-LSU matchup, you know what channel it should be on? CBS. This came across my desk this morning and buddy, it made me feel so many things.

Lordy, I miss the SEC on CBS so much it hurts. That is my childhood. The song, and the intro, and those announcers... it's all my childhood. Nothing will ever come close to that experience again. For those wondering how CBS's new deal with the Big Ten is working out, look at the marquee game this weekend. It was USC at Rutgers. What a fall from grace.

Yesterday I asked if we had any former UF students who were on campus in school during the infamous 1990 season when the Gainesville Ripper was on the loose. ESPN had a new 30 for 30 that premiered this week on those fourteen days, which coincided with Steve Spurrier's first game as head coach. I got dozens of emails. Dozens. Turns out, a TON of you were there during that time.

Erik T wrote in to say he was a junior at UF and his little sister was a freshman just starting her first week away from home. The atmosphere on campus that week is indescribable. He and most of his friends stayed at other female friend's apartments to protect them. They were armed with bats and knives, and sleep didn't come easily as they were just as scared.

Glenn S added that he was in Gainesville all during that time. He never seen a place so terrorized. It was an awful time. Obviously I have more stories like this. A ton of them. Like I said, I'm going to go further in depth later this week. Just wild stuff. If anyone else has any stories, please reach out. I'm all ears.

Let's go have a big Thursday night. Thank goodness football is back again. See you tomorrow. Were you in Gainesville in 1990? Email me at [email protected].
