Bears Dismantle Seahawks 34-17 to Cement NFC North Contender Status

Nov 3, 2026 •Sports

The standings might suggest otherwise, but the Chicago Bears have firmly established themselves as the top contender in the packed NFC North. They proved that point emphatically during "Monday Night Football," dismantling the Seattle Seahawks in a 34-17 victory. Lumen Field is notoriously difficult for visiting teams, especially against a Seattle squad that recently handed the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 7. Yet, the Bears, guided by head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams, seemed indifferent to the hostile environment.

Their offense dominated, while the defense delivered a statement performance anchored by All-Pro Jeffery Simmons. This was his first game with Chicago since the trade, and he made an immediate impact. The Bears improved to 6-2 on the season, cementing their status as the most complete team in the division. Minnesota leads the North at 6-1, but their offense has struggled significantly compared to their suffocating defense, which has kept them alive in close games. Detroit snapped that streak by beating Minnesota to move to 5-2, while Green Bay defeated Carolina on "Thursday Night Football" to reach 5-3.

The Bears’ offensive output was remarkable given that they faced the league’s best defense in terms of yards allowed per game (233.9). Chicago piled up 363 total yards, including 237 through the air. Big plays were everywhere, such as a 23-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden III and a 24-yard strike to Rome Odunze. Odunze led the team with 87 yards on four receptions. Williams became the first quarterback to exceed 200 passing yards against this Seattle unit.

The ground game also thrived, a hallmark of Johnson’s system. A disciplined offensive line paved the way for D’Andre Swift, who plowed his way into the end zone three times. The defense, which entered the contest ninth in both yards and points allowed, looked sharper with Simmons on the field. He finished with six combined tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss. James Lynch also forced a crucial interception late in the fourth quarter when the score was 27-17, setting up Swift’s final touchdown.

Seattle has shown flashes of the brilliance that earned them the Vince Lombardi Trophy last season, but consistency remains an issue. They acquired left guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts to bolster their offensive line and protect Sam Darnold. With rookie Jadarian Price returning from injury and Zach Charbonnet making his season debut, the run game was expected to improve heading into Week 8. It did not. The Seahawks managed just 81 rushing yards. If it weren’t for another 100-yard-plus performance by receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who scored just before halftime, the blowout could have been even worse.

The Seahawks remain in the playoff hunt with plenty of football left to play. However, the Bears sent a clear message on Monday night. They are all-in for this championship window, and they look like the team to beat in the NFC North.
