Bar's Viral Lamp Theft Video Gets Over Six Million Views

Oct 27, 2026 •Crime

CCTV cameras at Krak bar in Matlock, Derbyshire, captured a young woman allegedly lifting a table lamp and slipping it into her bag. The video shows the customer glancing around the room before swiping the ornament from the table. She then shoves the item into her bag with surprising ease, turning right back to her conversation with two other patrons sitting opposite her.

Krak posted the clip online, hoping to identify the alleged thief. The footage has racked up more than six million views since its release. The bar’s caption took a playful tone, stating, "Seems we’ve lost one of our new table lamps. Whilst on the hunt to find it we came across this footage of a lovely lady misplacing it!" They added that one of their tables is now in "complete darkness" and asked for anyone with information to message their page with the suspect’s name or arrange a time to return the property.

The comments section picked up on the irony. One user noted, "That’s what you call a light touch." Others chimed in with remarks like, "Good that this place is shining a light on this situation," and "There were too many and she fixed it." Another joked, "Maybe she's not the brightest," accompanied by a lightbulb emoji.

Krak describes itself as a European-style bar offering "krakin [sic] beer and live musik." The German-themed venue opened in August. Its drink list includes Schofferhofer grapefruit wheat beer, Budvar, Pardal, and Brinkhoff’s.

This incident echoes a similar theft that occurred two years ago at Campo Blanco restaurant in Whitefield, Greater Manchester. In December of that year, the restaurant shared CCTV footage showing a diner leaning over their meal to pick up a small battery-powered light. The venue posted online, "We love our new table lights too. We actually can't get them anymore as they've stopped making them so please bring them back. Also, they aren't yours!"

Campo Blanco gave the alleged thief until Christmas Eve to return the item without questions asked. They warned that if the light was not returned, they would "tell Santa to put you on the naughty list." The post clarified, "And by Santa, we mean the police. Cheers. Merry Christmas."
