Bahamas Tragedy: Lynette Hooker Disappears After Falling Overboard on Dinghy Ride

Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old American from Onsted, Michigan, has been identified as the woman who disappeared in the Bahamas after falling overboard during a boat ride with her husband. The incident occurred on Saturday in the Abaco Islands, where the couple was traveling from Hope Town to Elbow Cay on an eight-foot dinghy. According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Brian Hooker, Lynette's 58-year-old husband, reported they left around 7:30 pm. The dinghy, which was heading to their yacht named *Soulmate*, became the scene of a tragic accident as the weather conditions deteriorated.

Strong currents swept Lynette away after she slipped and fell into the water, an event Brian described as sudden and uncontrollable. Assistant Chief Stafford Patterson of the Hope Town Volunteer Fire & Rescue told ABC News that it was unclear whether Lynette was wearing a life jacket at the time. The dinghy's engine shut off when she dropped the boat key, leaving Brian to navigate the vessel alone. He paddled through the night, eventually reaching a marina around 4 am Sunday. There, he informed someone of what had happened, prompting authorities to launch a search.

The disappearance has triggered a joint effort between Bahamian and U.S. authorities, with the U.S. Coast Guard deploying an aircraft to aid the search and rescue operation. Lynette's daughter, Karli Aylesworth, issued a heartfelt statement, expressing her anguish and demanding a full investigation. "My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed into her disappearance," she said. She also urged federal, state, and local authorities to assist in uncovering the circumstances of the incident.
