Angel Reese Credits Teammates After Slow Start

Aug 26, 2026 •Sports

Angel Reese was not happy with her start against the Indiana Fever on Sunday night, so she spoke plainly about it during halftime. The Atlanta Dream held a four-point lead after two quarters, yet Reese went 0-of-6 from the field and missed several easy looks near the basket. She did help spark a seventeen-to-four run to end the first half though.

Reese opened up with ESPN's Holly Rowe about her rough opening minutes. "I was playing like s--- in the beginning, but it's a game of runs," she told the interviewer. "You've got to put that in your back pocket just because you know you have teammates that have your back." She specifically named Allisha Gray, Madina Okot, and Rhyne Howard as players carrying the team right then.

Gray scored twenty-one points by the third quarter while leading the Dream against Caitlin Clark and her Fever squad. Okot added six points off the bench along with six rebounds, one steal, and one block. Reese finished that first half with seven points on three-of-ten shooting plus nine rebounds. Rowe asked what shifted for Reese after such a cold start.

"Taking my time. Woosah. And just trusting my work," Reese replied to explain her change in momentum. This veteran star made her third All-Star team during this third WNBA season and remains a key piece for the twenty-one-to-twelve Dream entering 2026. She has averaged a career-high fifteen-point-six per game with twelve rebounds across thirty-two contests so far this year.

The Dream and Fever are currently battling for first place in the East division, meaning whoever wins takes that top spot temporarily. Gray continued her strong play to keep the offense moving forward while the defense tried to hold its own. The team knows they must rely on collective effort when one player struggles early. This situation highlights how quickly things can turn in a short span of time. Communities relying on local sports often feel the sting when star performances falter unexpectedly. Fox News Digital continues covering these shifts closely for fans everywhere.
