Alaska Voter Switches to Republican After Alleged Democratic Name-Confusion Scheme

Nov 3, 2026 •Politics

The Senate race in Alaska has become a national spectacle, largely due to an alleged Democratic-linked scheme involving a candidate with a nearly identical name to the incumbent. Fox News hit the ground to find out how this controversy is shaping voter behavior. One man, who declined to share his name, admitted he had previously considered backing former Rep. Mary Peltola, the Democratic challenger. Now, he is casting his ballot for incumbent Republican Sen. Dan S. Sullivan.

The heart of the drama lies in a ranked-choice voting contest that drew intense scrutiny after a New York Times report revealed that Democrats allegedly sought to recruit Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. to run against Sen. Daniel S. Sullivan. For this voter, the revelation was a dealbreaker. He described the situation as "sketchy from the get-go." When the details leaked, his reaction was visceral. "I was disgusted by the whole thing, so sleazy," he said.

A woman standing with him confirmed that his shift in allegiance came directly from the fallout. She noted that he had "thought about voting for Mary Peltola" before the story broke. "I switched," he stated simply. The woman shared his sentiment, calling the alleged maneuver unethical and expressing her belief that Peltola should not be elected. Both voters confirmed they are heading to the polls for Sullivan.

Peltola has pushed back against the accusations. During a rally speech last week, she denied any involvement in recruiting a look-alike candidate. "I knew nothing about any other candidates on the ballot except for me and the incumbent," Peltola insisted. "That is all I have ever known about." She added that she has no interest in deceiving the electorate, claiming instead that she believes she can defeat Sullivan on her own merits. Her campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment on Tuesday.

Sen. Sullivan took a different approach, framing the issue as a matter of integrity. Speaking on Monday, he acknowledged that while everyone recognized the "decoy Dan guy" was fake, the "extent of the corruption" and cheating was what truly stung.

President Donald Trump has thrown his full weight behind Sullivan, using his Truth Social platform to amplify the outrage. In a Monday night post, he labeled Sullivan "the Best Senator in the History of Alaska." Trump argued that Sullivan should be running his race "UNDER PROTEST" because of the fraud committed by placing another Dan Sullivan on the ballot. "Dan Sullivan against Dan Sullivan, How ridiculous is that?" Trump wrote, asking for attention to be paid to the matter.
