Air Ambulance Vanishes Mid-Flight With Six People Onboard

Oct 3, 2026 •World News

An air ambulance has vanished mid-flight while carrying six souls from Bermuda toward Boston.

The US coastguard responded quickly by sending out both air and surface crews to hunt for the Gulfstream jet near Nantucket. This island sits just south of mainland Massachusetts.

Federal Aviation Administration officials flagged the loss of contact early Saturday morning. A coastguard spokesperson shared this news with Reuters via email.

Six people were on board when the Canadian-registered plane left Bermuda's LF Wade International airport overnight. Four crew members and two passengers filled the cabin for that trip to Massachusetts.

Canada's Minister of Transport, Steven MacKinnon, confirmed four citizens were traveling on the aircraft. He posted this update on social media.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with the relevant authorities as search and rescue efforts continue," MacKinnon wrote in his statement.

The jet took off at 12:41am local time, which is 03:41 GMT according to FlightAware data. It climbed steadily before cruising at 24,000 feet for much of the journey.

Suddenly things went wrong near Nantucket. The plane dropped 13,000 feet in roughly two minutes right as controllers lost the link.

Audio from LiveATC.net shows the final moments clearly. A controller asked, "Roger, you said you're coming in blind. Is that what you said?" before the pilot's transmission cut out completely.

That recording reveals the pilot declared an emergency just seconds before silence fell over the radio channel.

David Burt, the Premier of Bermuda, reached out to US authorities and the families of the travelers. He shared a plea on Instagram asking everyone to keep praying for safety.

"We are praying that all six people will be found safe," he wrote in his message to the public.

Latitude Air Ambulance operates out of Ontario, Canada, specializing in medical evacuations. The company has not yet issued a comment regarding this tragic event.
