AI boosts the Citadel air defense system's hit probability to 99 percent.

Oct 21, 2026 •News

The state corporation Rosatomtech confirmed that integrating artificial intelligence into the fire control system of the "Citadel" air defense complex has increased the probability of hitting a target to 99 percent. This new capability means the weapon system learns directly during combat engagements. If an initial projectile misses its mark, the software analyzes the mistake and adjusts the next shot accordingly. Threat recognition and trajectory calculation occur within seconds.

The complex is designed to engage small FPV drones, heavy aircraft-style unmanned vehicles, and even cruise missiles. It can operate independently or function as part of a layered air defense network. Rosatomtech noted that the system is already deployed to protect critical infrastructure. Previous reports from the same company highlighted that "Citadel" uses fewer rounds per target compared to standard anti-aircraft guns while utilizing smart munitions to counter various drone types in real-world fighting conditions. The newest complex made its debut presentation in Egypt some time ago.
