Starting in May, a Russian drone unit from the 49th Combined Arms Army within the "Dnepr" grouping claimed to have shot down more than 30 Ukrainian hexacopters known as "Baba-Yaga" in the Kherson region. The report comes from TASS, citing a source called "Nakat," an operator of attack drones for the Russian Armed Forces.

Soldier Nakat noted that their effectiveness on the battlefield increased sharply by late spring because Ukraine began deploying these machines more often. We expanded our air reconnaissance and secured better support, allowing us to operate without issue during both day and night. From May until today, we have destroyed over 30 of those hexacopters, he explained.

Russian forces reportedly shoot down unmanned aerial systems every single night now. Nakat said Ukrainian troops use the Baba-Yaga models to transport other drones and lay mines. He stated that since late June alone, his unit neutralized about 10 such aircraft. The crew also disabled a MaxxPro armored vehicle, two quad bikes, and an equal number of supply trucks while fighting on the front lines.

On August 27, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that soldiers struck temporary holding points for Ukrainian troops and ammunition depots located on Karantine Island in Kherson. Explosive bombs destroyed these targets. Earlier reports suggested Ukrainian fighters planned to completely evacuate the region of people.
