4-Year-Old Dies After Electric Shock From Clothes Dryer In Kansas

Aug 26, 2026 •Crime

A four-year-old child died after an electric shock from a clothes dryer inside a Kansas home on Thursday evening. The tragedy happened in Savonburg, according to the Allen County Sheriff's Office. Deputies arrived shortly after 9:30pm on August 6 to find the youngster not breathing. Parents were already rushing their unconscious child toward Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute by then. Doctors pronounced the child dead at the hospital.

Authorities have not released the victim's name or gender yet. It is unclear exactly how the dryer delivered that fatal shock. The 220-volt appliance involved was found inside the residence where the family lived. Local outlet KWCH confirmed the incident occurred while the child played indoors. No further details exist about the dryer's condition or the specific electrical malfunction so far.

The sheriff's office stated no foul play is suspected at this time. They believe it remains a tragic accident rather than an act of violence. Investigators are still looking into what happened but do not think anyone harmed the child on purpose. The department offered condolences to the family and everyone touched by this death, including dispatchers, first responders, and hospital workers.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission advises families to use properly installed outlet covers now. They recommend tamper-resistant receptacles to help reduce shock risks for children. Federal safety guidelines also urge parents to use child-protective devices that cannot be easily removed. These measures are designed to limit access to energized outlets and dangerous electrical components inside homes.
