19 Wounded as Russia Strikes Ukraine's Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia
Russian missile and drone strikes have wounded at least 19 people across Ukraine, with Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa bearing the brunt of the assault. Ukrainian officials confirmed the injuries while reporting that the Air Force neutralized or suppressed 131 aerial targets during the overnight barrage. Debris from intercepted weapons rained down on five separate sites as attacks rippled through 36 different locations.
The Defense Ministry claimed its forces struck metallurgical plants, electronics factories, and key energy infrastructure in these three regions. They also reported hitting three bulk carriers and a supply ferry in the port of Chornomorsk. In Odesa alone, seven civilians including two children suffered injuries after high-rise apartments took direct hits. A private home was completely destroyed while warehouses, a nursery school, and numerous vehicles faced damage at other spots.
Local authorities detailed specific destruction within Kyiv itself. The Dniprovsky district saw warehouses, offices, homes, and cars damaged in the same attack wave. Solomyansky and Darnitsky districts reported warehouse losses alongside vehicle damage, while Podilsky suffered roof damage to a non-residential structure. In the broader Kyiv region, administration head Tymur Tkachenko stated that civilian areas and infrastructure were targeted in Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, and Bucha.
Tkachenko noted that 33 sites sustained damage overall, with Brovary recording fourteen hits and Fastiv taking ten. These locations included homes, production facilities, warehouses, and vehicles. Fortunately, no additional casualties emerged from these specific incidents in the Kyiv region. The strikes arrive just days after President Donald Trump announced an agreement to halt energy facility attacks between Russia and Ukraine.
Al Jazeera reporter Rory Challands highlighted the stark contradiction on the ground. He noted that while Trump blamed the war for global diesel costs and urged a pause, neither side has agreed to stop hitting energy targets. Russia has promised to ramp up mass attacks on the Ukrainian grid as winter approaches. Last year, such Russian pressure nearly collapsed the entire energy system. Providers now expect another very tough season but hope conditions will be slightly better than before.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded with reports of successful Ukrainian counter-strikes. His forces hit an oil refinery in Yaroslavl, northeast of Moscow, where regional governor Mikhail Yevrayev announced the fire was extinguished. Zelenskyy also confirmed damage to Russian warplanes and helicopters following a strike on a military base in Rostov. The president added that operations achieved good results in the Black Sea without offering further specifics.
